Who are courses for?
Level 1 and 2 courses are for new and experienced patient navigators, care coordinators, nurses, social workers, and community health care workers. Level 3 courses are designed for PN managers, supervisors and program developers.
Do I need to take Level 1 before Level 2?
We suggest that you start with Level 1 before taking Level 2 courses. The Level 1 course is designed for new patient navigators; however, nurses, social workers, and experienced navigators also benefit from the Level 1 course. Level 2 courses build on concepts and skills covered in Level 1. See Level 1 course description. Most Level 2 courses require Level 1 as a prerequisite or permission of the instructor.
How often are courses offered?
Courses are offered throughout the year. Self-paced eLearning courses are available anytime and are free. Courses are announced through our Navigator Announcements listserv. Sign up to get course announcements.
How much do courses cost?
The cost of courses varies. There is no cost for self-paced eLearning courses. Most level 1 and level 2 courses are $400. This covers ALL three days of face-to-face training or an instructor-led online course. Special topic courses vary in price. Individuals attending face-to-face training are responsible for travel arrangements and hotel accommodations. We currently have a grant that allows us to offer courses free to patient navigators in Colorado through June 2018.
Can I take courses online?
Some courses are offered online or have online components. All of our self-paced eLearning courses are online. Level 1 is not offered online, but some Level 2 courses are offered online.
What is my commitment if I register for a course?
By registering for training, you commit to attend the full course session. This applies to face-to-face or online courses. You also commit to completing all course pre-work prior to attending the course. Pre-work may be short readings, online videos or activities. Training is highly interactive and activities are designed around the number of students enrolled and diverse student experiences. Coming late, leaving early or not completing course pre-work affects the learning experience for the whole group.
For online instructor-led courses, you commit to 4-8 hours of work per week. The amount of work each week is similar to a college-level online course. Course activities include readings, tutorials, quizzes, and online discussions. Because you will be participating in online discussions with other students in the course, the success of the course depends on your participation.
Will I receive a certificate of completion?
A certificate of completion is available for all courses. To receive a certificate of completion you must actively attend and participate in all course activities.
Where are face-to-face courses held?
Many face-to-face courses are held in Denver, Colorado. We offer courses throughout Colorado and sometimes travel to sites outside Colorado. If your organization has specific training needs, we may be available to train navigators at your site. Contact us for more information.
Can instructors come to my organization to conduct training?
