This 1.5 hour webinar explores cultural humility and cultural competence within Motivational Interviewing (MI) practice. Grounded in the realities of working with diverse populations, the session will emphasize how culture shapes engagement in behavior change conversations. Through practical examples, participants will learn culturally responsive MI skills, including open-ended questions, reflective listening, and affirmations, that resonate with patients’ cultural values and strengths.
Spanish interpretation provided.
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Describe the core spirit of MI (partnership, acceptance, compassion, evocation) and how this spirit supports culturally responsive care.
- Learn how MI has been adapted and successfully used across diverse cultures worldwide.
- Adopt an MI practice stance grounded in cultural humility.
- Learn culturally responsive MI skills, including the use of open-ended questions, reflections, and affirmations that align with patients’ cultural values and lived experiences.
Offered in partnership with the Colorado Cancer Screening Program (CCSP).
