Motivational interviewing (MI) is a client-centered communication technique that helps people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. In this course, you will learn basic MI techniques you can use with clients to help support behavior change: open-ended questions, affirmations, reflective listening and summarizing. No previous MI experience required.
This Basic Motivational Interviewing class will have examples tailored toward working with Native American populations, but the skills covered apply to working with a variety of populations.
