This course provides basic knowledge of the pregnancy experience for those working with pregnant people to improve birth outcomes. The maternal mortality rate in the United States is alarmingly high compared to other wealthy nations, and this inequity is particularly pronounced when comparing patients from different racial and ethnic groups. You will learn how to guide and advocate for clients during pre-pregnancy, labor/delivery, and postpartum.

In this course, you will learn:

  • Health disparities: To consider health disparities clients may face during their pregnancy and how to assist in alleviating these burdens.
  • Before pregnancy: To recognize the basic needs of a person looking to become pregnant and steps to maintain a healthy pre-pregnancy journey.
  • During pregnancy: To recognize the basic needs of a person going through pregnancy and steps to maintain a healthy pregnancy journey.
  • After pregnancy: To recognize the basic needs of a person who has just given birth and steps to maintain a healthy post-pregnancy journey.
