This course covers basics of emergency and disaster preparedness and planning. Emergency and disaster preparedness and planning are knowledge, capabilities, anticipation, response, and recovery to the impacts of a disaster. Community health workers and patient navigators play an important role in the various phases of disaster management. The main goal of emergency and disaster preparedness is to protect individuals and communities from severe harm from disasters. Proper disaster management also enables effective coordination once a disaster occurs.

In this course, you will learn to:

  • Identify disasters that can occur in your area.
  • Describe the stages of disaster management
  • Know how to plan for an emergency and teach others how to be prepared.
  • Know what goes into an emergency kit.
