A lack of self-awareness (not knowing what you know), can compromise a Community Health Worker’s ability to support the clients and communities being served. Personal lived experiences, values and beliefs, and unresolved challenges, if left unchecked, can unconsciously seep into one’s decision-making process, and influence a CHWs judgment when it comes to the most beneficial way to provide support.
In this course, you will learn to:
- Describe the importance of self-awareness in their practice as CHWs.
- List personal values and beliefs that may influence their ability to provide client-centered services.
- Identify signs of self-awareness and signs of a lack of self-awareness.
- Explain the difference between internal self-awareness and external self-awareness.
